Who installs Lutron and Crestron systems in North Jersey?+–
Cave Group does. We are a Crestron Elite Gold Partner and Lutron Gold Dealer with an office in Fairview, Bergen County, and we design, install, and service lighting control, motorized shades, home cinema, audio, networking, security, and backup power for houses and estates in Short Hills and Millburn, Montclair, Summit, Chatham and Madison, Mendham and Harding, Far Hills and Peapack-Gladstone, and the Bergen County towns on their own hub. Our published New Jersey projects are a new-build estate in Old Tappan and a multi-building estate in Alpine. Bergen County →
Is Cave Group local to North Jersey?+–
Yes. Our New Jersey office is in Fairview, Bergen County, and northern New Jersey is where most of our estate work is. The Essex, Union, Morris, and Somerset towns on this page are a drive from the office, and Cave Watch handles most faults remotely, around the clock, so a visit is scheduled when one is needed rather than improvised.
Who is licensed to do what in New Jersey?+–
New Jersey has no separate low-voltage license. Wiring that ties into the building's electrical system, which includes the circuits that feed a rack, a shade transformer, or a lighting panel, is done by or under a state-licensed electrical contractor, and burglar and fire alarm work needs a separate business license from the state's Burglar Alarm, Fire Alarm and Locksmith Advisory Committee, with every installer registered and fingerprinted. We plan every North Jersey project to comply with both.
Where can a generator go, and how loud can it be?+–
New Jersey's Noise Control Act caps sound at a neighbor's property line at 65 decibels from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 50 overnight, and the exemption for an emergency generator applies only while it is actually supplying power in an outage, so the weekly exercise cycle is not exempt. Towns add their own step: Harding requires zoning approval before the construction permit, Mendham wants a survey showing the placement, Summit's setbacks depend on the district, and Chatham Township charges a fee per generator. We size it, place it on the survey, specify the enclosure, and have the licensed electrician pull the permit. Generator and UPS planning for the rack →
JCP&L, PSE&G, or Madison's own utility: does it change the design?+–
It changes the transfer switch, the interconnection paperwork, and what fails. JCP&L serves Morris and the Somerset Hills and spent 2026 undergrounding lines in The Hills after frequent outages; PSE&G serves Montclair, Glen Ridge, and Summit; Madison runs its own Electric Department and restores Madison first. The generator and the battery-backed rack are sized the same way everywhere, so the network, the cameras, and the alarm stay up whichever utility is out.
Which internet providers serve North Jersey?+–
Verizon Fios reaches most of these towns, Optimum is building fiber at up to 8 gigabits in several of them, and Xfinity serves parts of Morris County. We confirm what reaches the address, and on larger properties we design for two connections with automatic failover, so a single outage does not take the house offline. Our house is in a historic district. Does that change the work?+–
Outside, yes. Montclair requires a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes on landmarks and in its four districts and lists exterior lighting among them; Chatham Borough's Main Street district, Madison's 110 designated sites, Bernardsville's five districts, and Summit's commission all review what the street sees. Inside, and at the rear where the street cannot see, the commissions have no say. We draw the exterior devices for the application and keep the system inside.
Do you take over systems another company installed?+–
Yes. We take over existing Crestron, Lutron, and Savant systems, and when a system can no longer be supported, whatever the brand, we plan a replacement that reuses the wiring already in the walls. It starts with a survey: we assess and document the equipment, recover or rebuild the programming, replace what has reached end of life, and bring the result under a Cave Watch support plan so the next problem has a phone number. How early should an integrator join a new build or a teardown?+–
During design development, before the electrical and millwork drawings are final. Lighting control changes the panel schedule, shade pockets change the framing, the equipment room needs a place with cooling and a power feed, and on an estate the conduit between the house, the guest house, the barn, and the gate has to be in the ground before the drive is paved. The zoning permit for the generator goes in first in the towns that require one. When to engage on new construction →
What does a whole-house system cost in North Jersey?+–
It depends on how many rooms are lit, shaded, and wired for sound and video, how many buildings there are, and whether the house is new or occupied. We price from drawings, room by room, so you can see what each decision costs and cut or add with the numbers in front of you. If you are comparing proposals, make sure each one counts the same loads, shades, and rooms. What whole-home automation costs →
Do you work on hotels, restaurants, clubs, and offices in North Jersey?+–
Yes. The same team runs the lighting, control, and audio at Casa Cipriani in Lower Manhattan, we are Lutron HTI certified for guest-room control, and we integrate property-management systems such as Opera Cloud, Mews, and StayNTouch. North Jersey has the work: The MC Hotel was Montclair's first new full-service hotel in 80 years, Baltusrol in Springfield finished a Gil Hanse restoration of both courses and rebuilt its clubhouse after a 2021 fire, and Morristown's Class A office rents rose 42 percent from 2021 by JLL's count. Guest rooms, dining rooms, clubhouses, and conference rooms are the hospitality and commercial pages' work. Hospitality →
Can you support the house after it is built?+–
Yes. Cave Watch monitors the network, the control system, audio-video, and lighting around the clock and fixes most faults remotely; central-station alarm monitoring and live guard video monitoring stack on the same plan. The rack sits on battery backup with a second internet path, so an outage does not leave the house dark to us, and the Fairview office is a drive away when a visit is needed. Cave Watch support →
